Can anyone recommend a good, portable performance table? Something light but sturdy with a good surface etc etc etc that's easy to travel with?

Thanks

www.tabman.com

Run by Debra and Ray Witkowski. They are true professionals.

You can see one of their tables in this video.

Thanks, Kent, I checked out their site. The Convertatable is beautiful, I think it's just what I'm looking for...

If you're on a budget (and I am after three weeks in Europe with a truly horrible exchange rate) go by a restaurant supply place and get a tray jack.  You can replace the straps to raise or lower the height.  Or head to a music shop and look for a keyboard stand.  They come in different sizes so you need to look around for the appropriate size.

Then make a top:  plywood covered by a plush towel (an old one is cheapest), covered by whatever surface you'd like.  The surface I use is a pretty thick leather.  The towel underneath the surface gives a nice amount of give but isn't too spongy.   If you're handy you can  put a frame/fence around the outside to keep escaped balls from rolling away.  I use some nice poplar trim left over from another project.  Total cost for me was about $80, though I was using a fair amount of recycled materials.  It's very stable and light enough to carry around.

Tabman tables are things of beauty and I hope to get one someday sooner than later.  School for Scoundrels also has a couple nice tables.  In the mean time this solution works very well.

Well, in the end I've ordered a Tyltable from the folk at Tabman Tables. It looks fabulous, is plenty big enough and will be versatile--I can use it at home or take it out with me to perform. I'll post further about it after it arrives and I've used it for a while. Here's a pic from the Tabman website:

Today I received my beautiful table top from Tabman. It is absolutely beautiful! Has a bit cut from the back rim for lapping. It looks superb and is a perfect size for me. I'm thrilled with it! Now I'll start playing with the cups on the gorgeous green mali top...

I'm so very glad you sent Ray and Debra some business. They are grand folks! I just knew a classy guy like you would love their (now yours!) tables.

Yeah, Kent, thanks for the tip-off. Much appreciated. I also got one of their beautiful walnut & brass wands which goes so well with the Tyltable, and with my brass cups...am thinking of getting one of their walnut and copper wands for the copper sets. The people at Tabman really are great folk--they weren't fazed at all about sending it all to me in Sydney, Australia.

ps good to see you back, Kent...I watched one of your routines last week courtesy of a Magic Cafe link...it was great.

Levity,

I hope you clicked on the video at the top of this thread. That is the only thing in magic I've ever done, for which, I feel a degree of pride. The card tricks I do are always derivative beyond measure. That cups routine . . .

It ain't the best out there, but it's the best one I can do!
