Yes, you need super fine sand paper and wet sanding would not be so messy or dusty. But super fine sanding does take a little bit of time.

1500 micro-mesh polishing discs or pads might do the trick for you.  Best place to find them is on line or at a Woodcraft store.

If you know anyone who works as an engineer on aircraft, you may want to ask them for micro-mesh.
It is used to blend scratches out of acrylic canopies on aircraft.

Actually, you can also go to someplace that sells Corian (that counter top stuff), the repair kit for this includes several grades of small micromesh pads.

Also, if they get stuck during a performance rather than reach in and get it out or keep trying to force it out just give the bottom a slight tap one side once or twice, it'll come right out.

Regarding sanding down the logo, start with a relatively coarse sandpaper to hog away the rubber quickly, then go to consecutively smaller grits. Then finish with micromesh.

Regarding getting the balls stuck in the cups: if it happens, try holding the inverted cup by the bottom and shaking it from side to side, like a bell. This will allow air to get in behind it. Otherwise, hold the inverted cup in your hand, so that the mouth bead of the cup is between the little and ring finger, resting on the little finger. Bring the cup down fairly sharply on the table. Don't do this hard enough to hurt yourself, but it should dislodge the ball.

Let me explain a little more about lacrosse balls. The spec quoted earlier was that they could vary from 2 1/2 inches to 3 inches in diameter. That's not quite right. Here are the specs from the latest rule book:

SECTION 16. The ball shall be white, yellow, orange or lime green
smooth or slightly textured solid rubber — between 7-3/4 and 8 inches in
circumference*, between 5 and 5-1/4 ounces in weight and, when dropped
from a height of 72 inches upon a concrete floor, shall bounce 43 to 51
inches at a temperature of 65 degrees to 70 degrees Fahrenheit.

*These would be 2.47 inches and  2.54 inches in diameter, respectively. That's a difference of 1/16 inch.

A few months ago, I purchased almost $200 worth of lacrosse balls to see if there was any consistency at all in their sizes. There isn't. Most large towns have some place that sells lacrosse supplies. Take your cups with you to see if the balls will fit. Either that or take a caliper with you. Get the smallest ones you can find. Measure each ball from several different directions.

Remember, lacrosse has its own requirements. There is no guarantee that any particular lacrosse ball will fit any particular Paul Fox cup.

BTW, Monti cups are a tiny bit larger and therefore much easier to get to hold a lacrosse ball.

I tried to locate a shop in the region I live, couldn't find one. Just stores that sell them online, but than it is impossible to know if they fit. So the search continues.

One thing to remember is that the Paul Fox cups were designed to hold a lacrosse ball, not vice-versa. When the sport starts allowing greater leeway in the size of the balls, and the bulk of the balls are made overseas by people who don't play the sport, wider variations can occur.

In the 1970's, I never had a problem with lacrosse balls sticking inside the cups, but that has changed.

Sorry for diggin' up old bones but I had posted a similar problem on The Cafe. I had purchased a set of Sisti Working Professional cups from Donnie at RnT2 and ran across similar problems of Lacrosse balls not fitting. I e-mailed Donnie and asked him if a Lacrosse Ball did indeed fit a Sisti cup and he replied that it did not. He said that he needs to change the description of the load balls but didn't know what to use as a substitution.

I finally ordered some Fab Fruit from Michael Ammar's website and the very next day after ordering I stopped at the local Family Dollar store and found some usable balls in the toy section! They are soft and resemble Tennis balls and Baseballs...and are a perfect fit!

Any way the Fab Fruit are my favorite loads with the Sisti Cups and I reall enjoy using these cups as of late. I like the way they feel in the hands and the single ring is a change from the PF And Mendoza cups that I particularly like.

I use some very colourful hard foam balls with my Sisti working professionals but they are not the RNT2 Sisti's.  I also use the cheaper Chinese tennis balls, they are of such a size that ifthey were a tiny bit bigger they wouldn't go in and need to be used on a mat that has a touch of give.

Here are the hard foam balls I use with the Sisti's...

Dom… I had problems finding lacrosse balls for my PF Cups… only until I took them with me to the sporting goods store could I find some that would fit. The ball sizes are all over the map.
