Review of the RNT2 Italian Olive Wood Chop Chalice

I just received the RNT2 Italian Olive Wood Chop Chalice and thought I would share my opinions with you. I believe that the Cup I received was from the first run of Cups that were advertised some time in August. I see on RNT2’s website that there is a new version that is a little larger.

I am really excited to receive this Cup; it is the first turned wood item that I have purchased from RNT2 and the first wood Cup that I have ever owned. Like other items I have from RNT2 the Cup came with a nice storage bag and 2 balls (PIC 1). There were no instructions included; however this is not a problem because I have several Chop Cups already.

The Cup has a wonderful color to it and has a very distinctive grain pattern (PIC 2). The Cup stands about 3” tall and is turned to have a Chalice shape with dual beading at the top (PIC 3). The mouth of the Cup is about 2” wide (PIC 4). I have not played with it all that much to discover what fits well for a final load. The Cup works perfectly, retaining the gaffed ball and releasing it when desired.

I would recommend this Cup to all that are interested in it and feel that it is quite the value at $44.95. That being said there are a couple of things that bothered me. These are things that I can overlook considering the price I paid for the Cup and I can easily fix them to my satisfaction.

1- The overall finish of the Cup is a little ruff; I expected it to be smoother.
2- One of the beads is a little misshaped.
3- The bottom of the Cup isn’t flat, there is still a small stem from where the Cup was turned (PIC 5).

Despite what I listed above, I am very happy with my new Cup family member. The feel of wood is a welcome change to the cooper, brass and aluminum Cups that I use. I think that I will be purchasing a RNT2’s Siegfrieds Cocobola Lime Chop Chop Cylinder soon.

If you have any additional questions please contact me.
Thanks,
Bruce

Bruce,

I have one of these on the way to me right now.

I'm surprised by the fact that the cup is a little rough, I have three wooden cups from RNT II and all are finished beautifully.
I will let you know how mine is when I receive it.

I will have to get used to handling the chalice though.
I own a Solari Chop Goblet, that has a stem and after playing around with it for a while I think that I'm nearly used to it now.
The Solari Chalice is brass though so I think the comparative weights will be quite different.

I'll let you know about that too.

Has anyone else got one of these cups?
I'm pretty sure that they were quite a limited run.

A Follow-up…

I spoke to Jake this week and he made mention that his daughter Epiphany was pretty much in charge of the Italian Olive Wood Chop Chalice project. Epiphany if you are reading the Cupscon posts, can you please check in with us and share how the project came about and what you are learning about manufacturing Cups?

Thanks,
Bruce

I just got this cup and I have to say that I found the exact same things with my cup. Its a GREAT cup for the price! Now its down the 34.99... and that ain't bad! I'm not thrilled how they hid the gimmick tho.
