The Dreaming Madman

Well RNT II has sent out its new newsletter today, and wow what beautiful cups have I seen.

The RNT II newsletter said,

"The enhancements were a tighter mouth bead against the cup which changed the look of the cup, a raised shoulder bead and increased saddle which now allows for 3 1 1/8" balls to be nested on top and cups stacked with no sticking or floating. The cups now take a "REGULATION" tennis ball such as Wilson, Penn etc."

My question is what do you think of the cups? Huh?

Those Phoenix II's are gorgeous things.

Truth to tell, the Phoenix II's are my favourite cups of all, one day...

RNT II make great stuff and I have always found Jake and the gang to be great folks to deal with.
He's a nice guy too, despite what he says.

Wow!  Those are beautiful.  Like a dummy I passed up the chance when he used that metal and spun some JES and Sistis.  Great work as always Jake!

Is 'gun steel' as durable as stainless? I thought it was more liable to corrosion. Anyone know?

Now that Jake's here, maybe he can answer this. I always figured bluing was a "controlled corrosion" to help protect the metal from rusting. As it's not "stainless" it would still need some care to keep it in good shape. Either a wax coating like we use on copper cups to preserve the hard won patina, or at a minimum a wipe down with something like WD-40

I have a set of Mini Monti's in Blue Steel. IT is not immune to corrosion occasional cleaning with flitz will keep them nice.

Like guns, even other cups, copper, brass, bronze the metal needs to be maintained.  I have the first set of BGS Phoenix cups from
about a year ago and with about 5 applications of flitz they look as good as the first day I flitzed them.

BGS is prone to some rusting, the same way a gun is, but maintaining them with either flitz or wax will protect them quite well.
