Hi Andre,
If you like 1 1/8 inch balls, look at the Sherwood Deluxe balls. They have a terrific weight to them - best balls I've ever used. Brett Sherwood invented the concept of using metallic thread in the knitted ball and, much to his chagrin, anyone else making them have copied his idea.  He makes them in some very good colors that compliment the cups.
http://www.sherwoodmagic.com
I have 2 sets in White and Silver and a Red and Gold set on order. The gaffed balls for chop cups are lighter, specially designed for chop cups and adjustable. You will be impressed by these balls.
And I don't really care for the mini baseballs for cups and balls. I have an original Mike Rogers set of 4 that I should sell - I never use them.

Hi, DDecae
Thanks for the information...
I will consider Brett's stuff. One of the best out there... Wanna get smooth sherwood... sometime in the future I guess.

is it so much different between 1" and 1 1/8" ball ? I used to use 7/8 or probably 1" I think it's a bit smaller. I wanna give more visibility to audience.

What about Frank Starsini's stuff ?

Cheers

Hey Guys,

I hope all is well. I went against my best judgment and ordered the items we have been talking about. I better make some bonuses.

I went with the 1”balls, to me they feel really comfortable and I am not worried about the size, my performances are truly a close-up affair.  Like Don I am not too keen on the baseballs either, I don’t care for the look. I have some of the monkey fist balls that Frank sells, I like them a lot. I have a set (straight & gaffed) in red and a white set with the mouse ball centers. Has anyone seen the balls made of felt?

Since the adjustable balls were brought up, let me relay a story… I told you how I purchased one of Jake’s personnel Chop Cops, when I received it the gaffed ball would adhere ever so lightly, just enough that the ball could be dropped in and the Cup turned over. If I moved the slightest it would fall out. I have come to the conclusion that Jake must have a very light touch. I on the other hand am a bull in a china shop. Yes the adjustable feature is pretty cool.

I hope you all have a great weekend,
Bruce

Andre, It depends on the cups. Most cups won't nest with three 1 1/8 balls on the saddle. Or the cups won't hold three 1 1/8 inch balls on the saddle. LIke my RNT2 Foxy 2.5 cups won't nest with three 1 1/8 balls on the saddle - they were designed for 1 inch balls. My Mendoza Combo cups will nest, but I can't get three 1 1/8 balls to stay on the saddle, it's too small. Generally, you should stay with the maximum size ball recommended for the cup set you are using.
If you want the balls to look bigger and be more visible from greater distances, use white balls. White always looks bigger and is highly visible, it really pops (it reflects the most light) - that's why white multiplying billiard balls, white doves, etc. are so popular, and why fat girls shouldn't wear white... Watch for flashes though - white is also unforgiving! The opposite is true too: black is diminishing.

To continue on our discussion on what Chop Cups will hold what below are several pictures. I did not have a baseball on hand to try. Also the pictures show the inside of the Cups, there were questions on this too.

Andre, I can't get them to stay, but that doesn't mean that they won't with more patience.
It's really kind of a moot issue for me anyway, I don't do any routine that requires me to nest 3 balls or produce 3 balls on the saddle. The Kent Gunn routine is the only one I've seen that includes the production of 3 balls on the saddle of a cup - it is a very pretty production. My current routine includes nesting 2 balls between 2 cups at the most - and this is a routine that is 2 ahead.

Getting those little nippers to balance on top of the cups is a pain.

It may not be worth the trouble. I can do it repeatably (9 times out of 10) now. It's all about lifting the top cup STRAIGHT UP.

Thanks DDecae, Kent

Probably it's the matter of practice. Probably gentle touch will do the trick. I do have one part that require to balance 3 balls

I'm waiting for my cups now.... yay  Grin

Bruce,
Those are really beautiful chop cup

Which one do you use the most ?

Cheers

Hi All,

Don… Of the three shown I really like the Strolling Chop Cup, I have not really taken the others out for a test drive. Yes the Princess Cups do look like the Sherwoods, I believe that the changes RNT2 was going to make was tweeking the saddle so that they would be more their own Cup. I thought I read that the change would be a saddle more like a Don Alan Cup.

Andre… The Chop Cup that I have used the most has been an old Tannen’s Cup. I believe that it was made for them by Morrissey.  The Strolling Chop Cup is the one I am using now.

Take care,
Bruce

Hey, guys...first posting here, and it just so happens that I got a brand new set of copper Mendoza's (satin finish) today!  They're beautiful, and a great weight on them.  I had ordered a set of balls from Morrissey for them, but I think I 'boo-booed' because I'd bought 3/4" in size.  I've been using the 1 1/8" balls for my Tim Starr cups with the Mendozas for practice, and the size feels great.

Welcome Rick! This is a magical place filled with balls as far as the eye can see..... err, umm, welcome Rick  Smiley .

How do the Mendoza's look with the Satin finish on them? Are you going to let them form a patina?

My cups are in local post office at the moment waiting for pick up.

Unfortunately I'm still out of town... Can't wait to get my hands on it. Mine is normal polished.
