Hi guy's,
I have a question for you. I am in the oppurtunity to aquire a new set of cups. My question is which set would you buy?

I am truly lost. I wanted the Jes Squatty Cups for a long time and I still do, but they make the choice very diffycult. I don't know what to do!!!
Can anyone help me by putting the cons against the pros.

Hi Floyd,
We should all have such problems... it's a fun time picking out new cups! Enjoy the process.
Here are my thoughts on your dilemma:
The Squatty 2 and the Shibby Street Cups are very different cups. The street cups are bigger, the Squatties are smaller.
If you want to produce very large impressive loads or want to use 1 1/4 inch balls go with the Shibby Street Cups. Cups like these are better for larger audiences because the balls and cusps are larger and more visible. I also like that they are thick and heavy - but that's a personal preference. You get a lot of copper for your money with these cups!
If you have smaller hands, or prefer a more compact cup, then the Squatty 2 may be a more appropriate cup for you - the improvements that have been made to the cup allow for 1" balls to be used with them. I have a set and I think they are too small for me, and the diameter of the cup's mouth is smaller than I like. They are beautiful cups though.
I don't know anything about the PF cups.
I'm afraid that my recommendation for any RNT2 cups is only going to make matters worse for you, because I recommend the Foxy 2.5's. Because of the cup's sharply tapered design, the Foxy 2.5 cups make the final loads look TOO BIG to fit into the cups - so there is an illusion built into the cup design. They are not a TOO big cup, nor are they TOO small, and they look very professional. If you can afford the thicker version, buy it, RNT2 didn't offer this thicker version when I picked up a set of Foxy 2.5's. But for only $25 more than the Squatty 2, you get a larger volume, more versatile cup set. I think they are the best cups RNT2 offers.

- Mega Thick version <- recommended!
Unfortunately all you have to go on are photographs of the cup sets. That is really no way to buy the perfect set of cups. If you could see the cups side by side, and hold them in your hands...

Hi Floyd,
Yes it is tuff to decide, there are just too many choices. Out of the three I would recommend the JES Squatty 2 Cups. They still have the classic PF look, are a good sized Cup and can handle a large final load. Plus the price on the Squattys just went down. My second choice would be the PF Cups, how can you go wrong with a classic. I can’t comment on the Supper Shibby, I don’t have a set of Cups that big. Do you need Cups of that size?
Maybe Tom can chime in, he has Cups of all sizes.
Good luck choosing, you could always get them all.
Take care,
Bruce

The mouth on the Squatty 2s is 2 5/8", like the site said, that will take a lacrosse type ball. Out of those choices, I wouldn't really recommend those light PF cups over the heavier, nicer looking Squatty Cups. Of course this is purely opinionated, but I feel that the 3 beads look nicer, I know that the Squatty cups are heavier, and in my opinion, the Squatty Cups look more professional. Don't get my wrong, I would highly recommend a set of PF cups, but I would recommend those Squatty 2 Cups more so.
Now for my next point, my favorite set of cups you have selected, a set that I'm going to personally get, is the SBL Super Shibby Street Cups. These were formally known as the G2 (Gazzo 2) Street Cups. They stopped making them under that name after Gary Animal, the original spinner of the Gazzo's custom cups, decided to spin cups again. RNT2 changed the saddle so you can clearly distinguish the differences in the cups; thus forming the SBL Super Shibby Street Cups. Those cups are the cheapest up there, yet they have the most, and the thickest copper up there. The workmanship is still what you'd expect from RNT2. In my opinion, street- size cups are the way to go for anything because, whether you're performing for a large audience, or an intimate audience, they still work. Of course, it would be nice to have different sets for different occasions, but if you have to go with a set for any occasion, I'd go with a street set. For anything: Street Set For Close-up: Foxy II.V Cups, or Squatty 2 Cups.

Ketchup,
You made some really valid points on the G2 … now there are another set of Cups calling my name. When will it end?
Thank you to all for all the great comments, I get a kick out of talking about Cups, I always learn something new.
Best wishes,
Bruce

Floyd,
Two things to consider:
What final loads are you wanting to use?
Where are you going to use the cups?
If you want tennis balls or bigger, go for the Street cups.
If you want to perform on stage, busk etc, go for the Street cups.
If you are happy with final loads of lacrosse balls being the largest that will fit, get the PF's or the Squatty cups.
If you work close up, get the PF or Squatty cups.
But, bear in mind that the larger cups can also be used in a close up situation. Mike Rogers used Paul Fox Chick Cups for everything.
What cups are you used to?
Larger or smaller cups than you are used to take practise to get used to, as does using larger/smaller balls.
Basically, it all comes down to personal preference. No one can tell you what cups to buy, it's a bit like asking someone who their favourite child is
Best of luck with it all, I hope you find your 'right' cups.

I agree, I also like the 3 beads. Seems more pleasing to the eye.
Although the PF cups look great, I am afraid they will be eliminated from my wishlist. The Squatty still is my favorite, but I do like a heavy cup in my hand.
I have big hands and I found that my set of gazzo's feel better than the JP cups.

Where are you going to use the cups?
I am a hobbyist magician, practicing the art of magic in the little free time that I have. I fell in love with the cups several years ago when I saw the adds for the vhs tapes and book by Michael Ammar. Jumped right in and bought a set of cups and since then I tried to collect them. So, to answer your question, I perform close-up, more for myself than anybody else. If I do bring out the cups in front of people than the crowd exists out of my wife, kids and parents.
The final loads I use are the final load baseball's by Mike Rogers.

Never damn it!
Here is a video of Gazzo performing in a very close- up environment, and he's using cups that handle a baseball load (although a baseball is the biggest load that they can take I guess. You'll see what I mean.

That was nothing. Check out this SfS video of Gazzo busking at a Boston pitch:

Hi guys,
I have made my decision. Because of the disapearing of RnT2 in the future and the liquidation sale at the moment with reduced prices I took the leap and ordered the Squatty 2 as well as the Shibby street cups. How to explain to the wife will be difficult but I feel I have a good enough reason.
Maybe they will fall in the mailbox before christmas ( I hope so, merry christmas to me !!!!).
When they arrive and I had some time working with them I will post some pictures and a review of them.

Floyd,
Good on you… those are great Cups. I have been sitting here all day trying to resist the close-outs. I am letting fate determine my purchase. We will see what is left at the end of the day.
You will like the Squatty 2 cups, they have become my favorites.
Good luck with the wife thing!
Thanks,
Bruce

Cups haven't arrived yet, can't wait to get them. Told the wife about the extra set I bought, she didn't mind to much. She even has let me order a set of PF cups.
I even have sold of some of my magic props so that I could order the Don Allen chop cup and the SBL chop cup.
