Well, I have emailed them twice the last 2 weeks. Still don't have a reply. Oh well.

A week later still no reply, I have to guess that they don't care about customer service and sorts.

I threw a set of cups in the garbage last month.
I know, sounds like heresy!
I moved my residence and while packing my stuff I decided that an old worn Morrissey Combo set was NOT good enough to display anymore - they were cheap copper plated cups and the plating was worn off in spots and the cups just looked nasty. They have a lot of miles on them, but little sentimental value. I have not used them in years. They were not valuable & the gods know I have plenty of cups - they will not be missed.
Sometimes you gotta just let it go... and separate the wheat from the chaff.

I finally got an answer:

Quote
Hello,

After FISM I went to Japan, and came home last week. Sorry for the delay.

The apparant selfdestruction of the cups, as you describe it, is a total mystery to me. I never heard of a phenomena like that before and we have had no reports of other cups cracking. The cups have been manufactured with a production method which translates to "pressure turning" from a sheet of brass and I see no reason why the production method or material should cause the damage you describe, several years after production. Your cups come from a batch of 500 cups and I am not aware of any problems with any other of them.

Our warranty relates to faults that were present in the product at the time of purchase. Since such a long time has passed after you purchased the cups, it is up to you to show that there were faults in the product at the time of your purchase, to claim any warranty.

Kind regards,

Gay Ljungberg

I am still thinking what to write or to write at all.

Etienne… Not a very caring response, I can’t believe that is what they told you...  they could of at the very least offer to sell you a replacement Cup at discount. I have never purchased anything from EL Duco before and probably won’t after reading your post.

Maybe you could make some kind of book ends with the remaining two Cups or some kind of artwork.

I have had very good luck purchasing from RNT2, Johnson Products and Viking… each has taken care of me well after a sale.

Again I can’t believe it and am sorry that is how you were treated.

Take care,
Bruce

Bruce,

That is what they told me. This is the first time that I have "difficulties" with a magicshop.

Got me wondering though,
Is there a warranty on cups? And if so, how long does that last?

I never had any trouble with cup manufactors, RNT2 offered fast service and every email got answered. The same goes for Gary Animal and Eric Hansen.

Today I read a toppic on the green room about costumer service at Johnson Products, why can't all magic companies uphold such standards.

Oh well.....another lesson learned.

Seems like good solution.

Etienne,
Sounds like to me your Steamer out of luck! Never heard of such a thing.
                                                                                Best to you,

Sorry to be so late coming into this thread...

I own a set of El Duco Golden cups that I purchased more than 10 years ago and while I don't use them because of the terrible way that they wobble when stacked, I do check them regularly for stress fractures. I do this because I have heard numerous stories like this one about their cups. While I like the look of my set, I would not recommend these cups to anyone looking for a useful set of quality cups.

Recently there was an El Duco Golden chop cup listed for sale on eBay that stated that the cup had 'hairline cracks running from the rim up the sides.' That auction ended with no bids...

I am not a cup spinner, nor am I a metallurgist; however based on Bill and Gary's observations and my own experiences with metal (from having worked 7 1/2 years in an aluminum casting house many years ago) I can say with conviction that anything that is improperly annealed while being worked can suffer stress fractures years after manufacturing. Even if the item sees little to no use.

El Duco's response was ridiculous at best. Perhaps going forward their cups should be referred to as El  Steamer.

I remember back in the 80’s when I wanted a good set of Cups; I wanted something other then a set of aluminum Cups and there wasn’t much to chose from at the time. I thought the El Duco set was of high caliber because of their price; I am glad that I waited and purchased a set of Johnson Product Cups that just came out.

As I have become more familiar with Cups it seems that the El Duco Cups are not up to par. I was very disappointed when I read their response to Etienne… I will never consider owning a set of their Cups now.

I wish good luck to all that have them!

I was also very dissapointed by they're response. It is a set I have discarded. I still have it on the shelf but as a reminder to never have any dealings with El Duco. It's a shame really, I liked the little buggers. I replaced them now with the PF mini's. Much better.

Good call on your part Bruce...

I wouldn't take 50 sets of El Duco cups for either set of my Johnson cups.
