I've attended the Yankee Gathering in past years, and I found that the main things that were necessary were easy access from a main airport, and some local place besides the hotel where people could eat.
Providence, RI, is not exactly the best location for easy access by mass transit. If you fly in to Boston, you can catch a commuter train that will get you near where the hotel is, but you can't carry a lot of luggage on a commuter train without getting a lot of people pissed off at you.
A taxi is practically out of the question.
So, the best plan I can see would be to put it somewhere that allows quick access from the nearest airport. The airport MUST be one that is served by a large number of major airlines.
Although Amtrak might be an option for some parts of the country, down here in Texas, it is a joke. To get up East, we have to take a bus to Longview, Texas, which is basically the armpit of East Texas. Then we take a train to Chicago, from there to DC, then up to the target area.
Or we can take a train to New Orleans, which has NO amenities, and takes NINE HOURS. Ridiculous.
An airplane is fine, but getting from the airport to the final destination is a real pain in the wazoo.

You have a tough job, Sean. I'd be glad to drive to Rhode Island. Of course, I live pretty close, in Pennsylvania.

I live in North Carolina and cannot afford to go way up that far north and I would like to attend CupsCon one day.
Why not Washington, D.C.? It has big airport, Amtrak, and lots of cabs. It's the nations Capital and plenty of tourist attractions, and I want to see the new spy museum one day.
Hopefully by the time 2010 I will have a routine of my own to share.
Cheers,

You've all got totally the wrong idea.... It shouldbe in the UK, just down the road from my house! There's a great Leisure Centre about 1/4 of a mile away!

Thank you all for the input. I have not found a home just yet for CupsCon. I am still looking at a few locations.
I am not sure just where I am going to have it at yet. When I have more info I will let you all know.
Again, thank you for all the help keeping the dream alive.
Till next time,
Sean

Actually, DC is a great idea. There was a Magic Collector's convention in DC a few years ago. The actual location was Rosslyn VA, which is right across the Potomac from DC. You can reach everything by train or cab fairly reasonably.
The convention was in the Holiday Inn, Rosslyn.

Tough one, Sean, tough one.
Providence, Rhode Island or Washington DC would both be OK with me.
Sounds like we'll need a few CupsCons to cover everybody! You'll have to become a jet-setter, flying all over the world!

Travelling Mini C&B Con at various conventions. Sean, why don't you and a team get together a "workshop" plan/checklist that can be used by Cupscon members to set up a Cupscon group meeting at any convention where there are a half dozen or more interested parties.
Start small by handing out invite cards to magicians at the conventions to meet in a designated room or at a reserved hallway "closeup" table. The invites would simply say something like, "CUPSCON workshop....If you love Cups and Balls, please join us.....time, location, etc."
As the group grows at conventions, arrange for a scheduled notation on the convention program.
That's just my two centavos on how to get a group going and international......opie
