They sure turn quickly! I prefer them shiny, but I don't have any room to talk. I have an old set of aluminum cups that are all scratched up.

Most of you know that I like to make little display boxes that look like turn of the century magic props for my Cups. Below are pictures of the box that I finished this morning for the Traditional Cups.

I hope that you enjoyed looking at them… best wishes,

Bruce, I love your display boxes. This one is GREAT! If I were to make a suggestion though, it would be to give the box an "aged" look like you did with the Phoenix Cup box. I like the old Sun and Moon contrast design though, very old and very mysterious.

P.S. Jeez, those cups don't even look close to turning. RNT2 really does a good job polishing and spraying those, don't they.

Mike... the box looks better in person, the pictures do not do it justice.
Thanks,
Bruce

I like it, it has a very playful look to it. The primary colors give it a very mid 1900's magic prop feel.

Bruce, I wasn't saying it looked bad at all. I love your box work. I just didn't know if it looked "aged" enough is all.

Eddie... thanks, I was going for the tacky prop look. I was torn between using Chinese writing or the sun and the moon that I used.

Mike... I agree and get what you are saying. I unused a different brand of paint then I normally use. Even though the can said satin finish, it was too glossy. The box became too shiny after I gave it a coat of paste wax.

Take   care guys,
Bruce

I bought a set of these recently.
Great cups!

The ones I bought were straight from Epiphany at RNT II. She tells me that they were Jake's personal set, spun by him for his own use.

I am merely looking after them for Jake, when he wants then back, they'll be sent straight back across the pond.

To be honest, I can't bring myself to use them.
I once read that Muddy Waters, the great Bluesman, asked Eric Clapton to pass him his guitar. Eric Clapton couldn't bring himself to touch it.
Well, I feel the same way about Jake's cups.

Tom,  on the other hand you should have seen Stevie Ray Vaughan's "Number One" that thing was beaten up so bad it looked likeit had been dragged behind a truck for a year but he could make it sing so sweetly... Use them and enjoy 'em!

Bri,

I don't think I'll ever use them in performance.
Just in the privacy of my house.

Below is a picture of how the Traditional Cups are looking now that I have played with them for a while… they are starting to get that antiqued brown look. They look like they are a beloved relic.

Thanks,
Bruce

Thanks Tom!!!! For the longest time I kept them shinny as you know. They certainly gained some character as they turned.

They look antiqued. Did you do that with shoe polish?  Wink

I agree, they are looking great Bruce, FWIW I really like those RNT2 trads, I was lucky enough to have a play with Tom's and they are really heavy and feel great... Dammit, they're men's cups!
