Before I begin I would like to take a minute and properly introduce myself since I never did .

My Name is Etienne, I am 30 years of age. I have a wife and two wonderfull kids. The oldest is a girl of 8 years and the younghest one is a boy of 2. Futhermore I live in the Netherlands and I work in a DIY store where I have a fulltime job. My screen name is Floyd, I took this on because it is a reference to the greatest band on the planet namely Pink Floyd and as a tribute to the recently deceased Rick Wright who was part of this band.

I started doing magic for about 12 or 13 years ago. It was an on/off hobby for me. When I had a chance I would pick it up or else the props dissapeared in my case. I had times that my props or effects wouldn't come out for over 2 or 3 years. Not that this matters anymore, I recently sold off 80% of my props and effects to get my hands on some cups.

Well, now that is out of the way lets talk some cups.

SBL Super Shibby Street Cups

I have tried to keep this in the same line as Bruce did with his reviews because I liked his style of reviewing, but alas I don't have the neccesary information regarding the background of the cups other than they originated from the Gazzo cups and that these cups started off as Gazzo 2 cups or G2.

I received the cups well protected, and when I opened the box the first thing came to my mind was “oh my gawd” “a house fits in these cups”. They looked great and they feel great.

You will receive 3 copper spun cups and a bag. The bag is not of the highest quality, just a simple thin bag to transport the cups or to store them. No balls included.

Each cups stands 9.1 cm (3.5”) high,

Total stack heigh about 18.6 cm (7.3”) high.
Pic 2 - http://i405.photobucket.com/albums/pp136/Floyd_78/HPIM2514.jpg

ID of the cup 8.5 cm (3.3”) wide.
Pic 3 - http://i405.photobucket.com/albums/pp136/Floyd_78/HPIM2512.jpg

They weigh a hefty 11 oz. which equals about 311 grams. Very heavy, but I like the weight very much.

The saddle as enough room for 3 1¼" balls. You can stack the cups with 3 balls on the saddle without any trouble.

Loading the cups is pretty much easy, I have to say I wasn't able to do a good final load because I couldn't find anything big enough to load. So I tried a tennisball, Mike Rogers baseball and fab fruit by Michael Ammar.
Pic 5 - http://i405.photobucket.com/albums/pp136/Floyd_78/HPIM2505.jpg

The biggest load was the tennisball, and still you have enough space within the cup. Next time I'll try some big oranges.
Pic 6 - http://i405.photobucket.com/albums/pp136/Floyd_78/HPIM2506.jpg

The size of these cups is just awesome. Especially when you compare them to my other cups. They are bigger than my gazzo's.
Pic 7 - http://i405.photobucket.com/albums/pp136/Floyd_78/HPIM2501.jpg

In fact, they fit over the gazzo's.
Pic 8 - http://i405.photobucket.com/albums/pp136/Floyd_78/HPIM2509.jpg

Compared to the Street cups the Jes and PF cups almost look tiny.

Pic 10 - http://i405.photobucket.com/albums/pp136/Floyd_78/HPIM2507.jpg

I did some line ups of my cups.

Pic 14 - http://i405.photobucket.com/albums/pp136/Floyd_78/HPIM2493.jpg

To sum it all up. Excellent cups, big and heavy. They handle like a dream. These are cups I really like and some day I will try them on the streets.

I hope you enjoyed the review, it's my first one ever. Please comment if there is something you want to see different or if there is something missing.

Etienne,

The first thing I always thought of when I read your name as Floyd was Pink Floyd…  I have spent my fair share listening to their albums and they were always a go to for demo material when I sold stereo equipment in the 70’s. Dark Side of the Moon and wall sold a lot of speakers for me. I had drinks with Alan Parson (he produced Dark Side of the Moon) once at a trade show, we spent some time talking about Pink Floyd. I was also lucky enough o visit Abby Road Studios on a business trip.

You wrote a great review on the SBL Super Shibby Cups… thanks so much! I enjoyed all the pictures, especially the ones comparing Cup sizes. Boy are those big Cups, I thought my Traditional Cups were big. You better not drop those on your toes.

You made your purchase at a good time; I notice they went up in price again (along with some other Cups).

Thanks again,
Bruce

Bruce,

Thank you for those kind words.
Oh man, you met with Alan Parson. WOW. And you have been to Abby Road. So cool man.

Now I have to put on my safety shoes when I pratice.

I noticed that off all the cups I ordered the price went up. They now cost double.

Floyd, are you sure that the mouth of the cup is 3.3"? I thought that the original Gazzo cup by Gary Animal (Gary, correct me if I'm wrong,) was 3.5" high with a mouth of 4.5". That's a difference of 1.2"! My Magic Makers Street cups have a mouth of 3.75", and I thought that they were on the smaller end of the Street cup spectrum (they still take a baseball and everything though.) Are the Shibbys really only 3.3"?

Ketchup,

I measured the inside of the mouth and the exact size is 8.53 cm. The outside of the mouth is 9.41 cm = 3.705". I am not a wizard with numbers so I had to convert this online. The site said that 8.53 cm equals 3.358". So yes, they are 3.3". As you can see in the pictures provided in the review, the Shibby Cup can take my Gazzo cup as a final load. Perhaps my Gazzo cup really isn't a Gazzo cup, bought it as one from Gary. Maybe he can clear up the measurements of the cups.

Gary, what are the dimensions of the Gazzo cups? Are they 3.5" tall by 4.5" wide? Thanks.

              Mike

Gary, have you started spinning Gazzo cups again? How much do they go for from you?

Okay that is an Animal cup you have. Not to many off those around . Gazzo is about 82mm or 83 mm on the internal diameter. I'll be spinning gazzos soon. Jusdt waiting to get paid so I can by copper.  then it 's the new animal cup.  I'm remaking the chucks for the animals and babes. The babes will be sightly bigger.
Cups will be a rare thing from me ,but should have a sight up soon.

Gary,

Did not know that, I always thought these were Gazzo's. One more question, in the picture below there is a line visible inside the cups. Why is it there, always wanted to know that? It thought it had something to do with the top not being correct at first spin?

Ah, You may have a set of early Gazzos.  The first Gazzos made were actually  smaller.
After about 10 sets or so we made the Gazzo bigger. The old Gazzo design was tweaked  and became the animal set.
No idea what the line is, thats hand spun cups for you. Still look nice from outside.

Can you tell me how many sets of these wre spun please?

They were sold to me as 'prototypes'.

Really great cups, thank you for these.

yes it was only 6 sets . 2 of those were seconds.
Just cut my finger open on lathe today. Started spinning and grabbed a bit of copper that I was trimming off. Very deep .had to have it stitched. Spinning and magic do not go together. Got a gig Sat so it better get better.
