Jes Squatty 2 Cups

Oh man, when I started collecting cups I stumbled upon a site which was maintained by a man named Jonathan Schweid. It was love at first sight. He had just issued run 3 of the Squatty cups (so the website stated). I tried to contact him to see if he had a set available. I send several email without a response. The pictures went on my computer as a background, so every day I saw the cups. Since then I never had the finances to buy these cups, but they were still on top of my wishlist. Along came RNT2 with their blowout sale, yippie!!!! At last my loved ones were send to me.

Once again I received the cups well protected, they looked great and they feel great. I am not sure if I will let them turn. They look nice and shiny.

You will receive 3 spun cups and a bag. The bag is not of the highest quality, just a simple bag to transport the cups or to store them safely. The bag you see on their website is also not included, I really had hoped that bag was included. It would give something extra to the cups. After contacting RNT2, Epiphany Jean would look if she had a bag lying around somewhere. No balls included. No certificate included.

Each cups stands 7.1 cm (2.7”) high.

Total stack heigh about 14 cm (5.5”) high.
Pic 2 http://i405.photobucket.com/albums/pp136/Floyd_78/HPIM2542.jpg

ID of the cup 6.5 cm (2.5”).

As stated in the review of the Paul Fox cups the same goes here. The ID of the cups should be 6.6 cm, which should take a tennisball or a lacrosse ball as a final load. However I measured the inside and I came to 6.5 cm which gives no room for a tennisball. The tennisballs I have got are 6.4 cm in diameter, thus leaving 1 mm breathing space.

I you have the Fab Fruit or the Mike Roger's baseballs then you are ok, these will fit inside, and make a great final load.

Pic 8 http://i405.photobucket.com/albums/pp136/Floyd_78/HPIM2546.jpg

The saddle should take 3 1” balls without any trouble, unfortunatly I don't have 1” balls, they should arrive with my Foxy 2.5 cups. I ordered the red and gold SBL ball set in 1”. Now I used 7/8” balls and they work just fine.

Pic 10 http://i405.photobucket.com/albums/pp136/Floyd_78/HPIM2548.jpg

I have noticed that the cups have a wobble and there was some white resedu on the cups. Dispite I mentioned in a earlier review that I wouldn't buy cups that don't take tennisball, these are different. These cups were on my wishlist a very long time and nothing could stop me from buying them.

Great cups. Feel great, look great. Just exellent, but then again these are my dream cups. Don't ask why but they are.

Here are some pics I posted earlier on.

Nice review. These cups look GREAT! I don't know if I'd let them turn either; they look good shiny (we'll just have to wait and see how Bruce's come out. That's what I love about cups, they are like pieces of art when you get them, and then you have the liberty to either keep them shiny or form a patina. You labor for them, a labor of love. If the patina isn't even or doesn't look good on the cups, you can always polish them and start over, nothing is permanent.) What routine are you planning on using them for? What's your favorite set of cups now? So many questions.  Wink

Etienne,

Great review…. thanks for taking the time to do so. I agree with you, that there is something about the Squatty 2 Cups that is special. For now they are a favorite Cup of mine.

I thought for a while as to, should I keep my set polished or let them turn. They told me they wanted to go brown. They are sure taking their tome doing so, but will look great when they do, especially around the 3 rings.

Best wishes,
Bruce

Welcome back Bruce.
Did you strip off any coating that was on the new Squattys when you got them prior to waiting for them to patinate? I know RNT2 will polish the cups with machines and then apply Flitz to them prior to shipping to shine them. Flitz will leave a protective coating that will resist (but not stop) a patina. One quick washing with a copper cleaner would strip off all the protective coating so you are down to bare metal and set the stage for a good patinating.

I wish my cups talked to me, but they're MM cups, so they're probably too cheap to talk.  Wink

BTW, I am getting a set of Princess Cups, along with a set of Mendoza's, White 1" working balls for the Mendoza Cups, a Realistic TT, and a Ron Bauer Technique Book. I'm excited.

No routine yet, still working on vanishes, takes, you name it. I don't really have a favourite set (I love them all). If I do have to choose I would say...the shibby's. These are just great. Bigger as the rest and heavy.

Damn it, why'd you have to say that?! I have been admiring those cups for a LONG time, but I decided to go with the Princess II cups over these.

Sorry man, I will try to choose my words carefully. I will not mention the shibby's again.

Just remember this thread when you receive your cups. When I first looked at the RNT2 website I saw all those cups I really wanted, decided to go for the Jes, PF, Foxy II.V and the shibby's and leave all those other cups behind. I wanted the Mendoza cups, a Don Alan cup and many more. Upon arrival of the cups you instantly forget all those cups and concentrate on what you got. True, the pain never goes away. But it becomes easier. Wink

Hey Don,
Yes I did clean them… I always do upon arrival. They are slowly changing for me; I really think that it is just really dry here in Denver this time of year. I will post new PICs in a week or two.

Work is kind of settling down and I am not working 16 hour days anymore.

Thanks,
Bruce

Mike… all the Cups speak, you just have to listen… but don’t believe a thing that the Dixie Cups tell you.

Bruce, I don't know how this would look, it might look good, it might look bad. Once your Squatty 2 cups reach the patina that you want, you could leave them to ensure that the patina stays even, smooth and nice; or, you could try something kind of out there. You could try polishing just the beads on the cup, and leaving the patina on the rest normal. I'm not sure how the two-toned patina on the cup (shiny and dull) would look, but it's just something strange that came to me.
