I've heard that the best combo set is the RNTII Mendoza set because, unlike other combo sets, it was designed from the beginning to be a combo set, it wasn't an after thought. I've heard that it has the most perfect release, the cups look virtually identical, and they're all within 1/10th of an ounce of each other. Check them out.

Andre,

I do own quite a number of combo sets. The Mendoza's are great but for those "important" shows....I still end up using my Johnson set. The Johnson set never failed me. The weight and the functionality (the release, etc...) does it for me. I understand the quest for the combo set....especially on a PF design however.

This is of course just me. I guess you have to really handle the cups yourself to make that decision. No amount f reviews will give you the feeling of what the cups are really like. Good luck Andre!

I don't own a combo set. But I do have the JP cups and chop cup. When I fumbled around with it they worked just fine. But those Mendoza's look good.

Hey Rannie, how have you been? I didn't know that Johnson cups had a really good release, I'll check them out. What size load do they take, a lacrosse ball ala Paul Fox, or a tennis ball? Thanks Rannie.

Mr. Brett Sherwood makes combo cups as well. They'll cost you a little bit more than most. They sure are purdy though!

If you go the Johnson Cup/Chop way to create a combo set, may I recommend that you replace the balls with something else? Frank (The Ambitious Card) sold me the Monkey Fist Balls and they are fantastic.

Take care,

Kent, I've heard some people claim that they've had problems with the release on the Sherwoods, that it was too strong. Have you ever had this problem?

Thanks guys,

Mike, I did ordered Mendoza cup set and it's on the way to me now. Johnson cup, I believe, take the lacrose ball

Rannie, how have you been ?  Yea I've handled my friend's Johnson cup and they are feel great. Heavy and strong feeling. Haven't handled the chop cup thou.

Mr Kent, yes Sherwood will make me open my wallet wider. I heard Brett is designing the new chop cup so it could take final load properly.

Bruce, I agree with you. Johnson's balls are too light. Must replace it with something better

I know Ricky Jay has "rare" paul fox style combo cups. They are look great

Andre, congratulations! Did you get it in the polished finish or the satin finish? I'm going to order a satin finish because it's half the price and I'll probably let it form a patina. It should look nice.

Mike, I ordered the polished finish. I ordered it around Christmas. Before they offered satin finish. I do like they to form patina. So it would like coffee-milk color.

Yup it's half price, what a deal. you better get them before they change the price again.
What balls size and color you order, Mike ?

Cheers

I think release strength is a personal thing. For most routines it's simply a balance of being certain the darned ball will stay up there always when you want it up and how hard you can set a cup down without telling the world that something's going on.

I think Thomas Wayne has the best solution. His coffee chop cup is awesome. As you play with it you can set the cup down with ZERO tell, ZERO.

The routine (3 cup) I do requires a stronger magnet than most like. I started off with a set of balls I made myself and I used a really strong magnet.

Jake's adjustable feature is really clever. If you can get your hands on a set of those I think you'll be happy.

The Sherwood chopper won't take the load balls Brett makes, nor will it take a tennis ball. I chose smaller load balls because of my loading technique and I needed three different colors for the loads anyway. The Sherwoods are perfect for me. Your mileage may vary.

Andre, I'm going to special order some white balls in either 1" or 1 1/8", whichever fits on the Mendoza's best. Thanks.

So Kent, you haven't had any problems with the release? That's good to know. What balls do you use for loads considering the limitations that the Sherwood gaff has on the loads? Thanks.

yea, I also want to get white balls. probably other colors too

Brett's balls, some people say, are great and nice to handle. RnT is great because of additional feature.

What about others balls ?

James Tong has large variety of balls as well

Cheers

Andre, I've never handled Brett's balls Grin

You just have to talk to Epiphany for the white balls because they're special order at RNT2. Does anyone know if RNT2 makes 1 1/8" balls?
