Well I see that I have made it to the big times. People are starting to talk badly about me. Hell, Jim Riser almost knows my name.

Someone once told me that there is no such things as bad press. I am not sure if that is true, but who knows.

It seems that I have upset Mr. Riser with a comment that I made sometime ago. (I think it was back before I started CupsCon.com) It was made on the MC. I tried to look for it, but I did not find it. I may not looked that well. Any way, I said something about not giving him my business. I am going off memory here, but it had to do with the old fight that Jake and Jim had. (I think it is over now, but I never seem to know.) And the buying rule Jim had at that time. You know the one about if he did not know you he would not sell to you. My opinion on that was I would not be buying anything from him. Hell he did not know who I was. So, I guess I did not matter if I wanted to buy any of his cups.

You know the old saying "Be careful what you say it just might come back to get you." Well it seems what I said back then offended Mr. Riser. It was never meant to do that. It was just my thought at that time.

So, for the record, "Jim, I hope you can forgive my careless comment I said about you. I guess I got mixed up in the whole craziness of it all." If you would like to talk more please send me an email. ( sean@cupscon.com )

It is true that I asked Mr. Riser to come to CupsCon 2009.

Over a few polite emails. Mr. Riser made it clear to me what he thought of magic conventions, and that he had no need to ever be a dealer at one. Also, that he would not be coming to CupsCon.

I thanked him for his time, and I asked him to still give it some thought. It would be great to have him there as a guest.

(Not that I would pay to get him there.) The people that I was working with at the time know I could not afford to do that. I only talked about covering the cost of travel for two people, and they know who they are.

I guess, I have not made it clear to everyone. CupsCon is my dream, I want to get all the greats of cups and the cup junkies all in one spot. What is going to happen at WMS this year is great. I am sorry I am going to miss it, but you can not go if you can not afford it.

Also..... It has been said that I will do anything to try to skim a buck from someone.

Well, that person just does not know me that well. I am not a Working-Pro. I am a out of work part-timer, that get this "Does Kid Shows", and yes, it is true that I tie balloons too.

I am also, I big supporter of St Judes Children's Hospital. I never let a lot of people know this, but I was talking with them about doing fund raising with them at CupsCon, but seeing how CupsCon 2009 did not happen. I was not able to that, but I still have plans of working with them.

Would I like to make some money doing CupsCon?

Yes, to tell you the truth. I would be really happy if I made one buck.

If anyone out there think you make a lot of money doing a convention. You are nuts. It is a roll of the dice. You either break even or you loss money.

You have to keep the cost of the tickets low to get people to come. At the same time you need to keep the cost of the rooms low to get people to stay at the hotel. That way you hit your room target. So, you get the meeting place paid for. You also, have to make sure the hotel does not want you to meet any such food cost. (That is what got me last time.) So, after all of this you pray you break even. It is not about making a lot of money. It is about having a good time.

The only way you make any money at conventions is if you are able to hold a lot of them, and that is still a roll of the dice.

I would like to go on the record and thank "David Alexander" for posting my personal info of the Genii Forum.

I have no idea who you are or why you think it was a great thing to post my address up on the forum. I just don't get people like you, but I guess some people just have too much time on their hands. If you would like to talk with me. Just drop me an email. I know you have it. So, I look forward to hearing from you.

I want to thank everyone out there for the time you took to read this post. I will say I have made a few friends out there in the magic world, but I never thought I would be big enough to get on anyone bad list.

I think of myself as a fair and honest person, and I can lay my head down at night knowing that. I am also the type of person that sticks up for a friend, and I make no apologizes for that. Nor am I the type of person that will be threatened in anyway.

So, everyone is welcome to think and say anything about me. I know where I stand in the world, and in the eyes of the Lord Above.

Till next time,
Sean

Sean... I love you man, even if you are a balloon twister. You love Cups so you can’t be all that bad.

Hang in there,

Sean,

The rant is here.

http://www.geniimagazine.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=188402#Post188402

Some people need to tear others down to feel important. I had a real falling out with RNT2. I know by choosing to let go of my anger I immediately felt better.

Some silly things were said on Genii. Let it go brother. Don't go and play with the children on Genii. They have there turf, you have yours.

I'm sorry that people on magic boards, (myself included) can be so petty and mean-spirited. I often feel like I've been drawn back to Junior High School.

I guess Kent is right. I don't think you came out to badly . Only J Riser comments were a bit off and had sod all to do with the topic. As for twisting ballooons I've done shed loads of that . Most street performers have. Why do we not carry a link to Genii as well as the crap magiccafe

Sean,

I just saw your website. Nothing wrong with balloons. That's what the customers want! I can't even blow them up, (gasp, gasp) so I never did balloons. That real tall balloon hat is impressive! You must have gotten dizzy blowing up that one!

Thank you everyone. I felt I needed to say something. I am not a member of the Genii forum. So, I will not be playing with them on Genii. I do welcome them to join us here. Hell it is always great to have new members. So, come one come all.

Gary, I am going to ask our Web Wizard to add a link to Genii. So, we should have one in a day or two.

Tom, don't tell anyone, but I have to use a pump to blow up the balloons. I have made myself dizzy trying to blow them up myself. It is a cheap high, but not any fun. Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

Sean… I just want to say thank you again for CupsCon. I for one appreciate the feeling of this forum; for the most part no dickering, mud slinging…. A friendly group of guys.

I just hope that the hostilities don’t come this way, but I welcome all.

Best to you,

As I mentioned before in another thread, for me CupsCon and all it's members with it feels like home.

Thanks Sean

I'm not going to say anything bad about Jim Riser. Jim has accused me of being an "internet bully," while he posted defamatory information about various people on his web site. I'll admit that sometimes I post rather blunt responses to things that get posted on various sites. However, I've never given anyone a wedgie over the internet. I'm not really certain what an internet bully is.

Maybe he wants me to put a Riser cup on my head in my avatar. I don't really know.

In any case, Sean, the e-mail you sent out about three weeks ago about starting small and letting it grow is probably the most appropriate and intelligent thing you have sent out regarding CupsCon. I'll tell you why I feel this way.

All of the major conventions started small. In about six weeks, we will be having the 59th or 60th annual Texas Association of Magicians Convention (the numbering depends on what you count as the first!). The line-up includes Michael Ammar, Oscar Muñoz, Banachek and a number of other heavy hitters. As part of the presentation, on Monday morning, I'll be doing the historical presentation I did in Las Vegas, plus we will have a number of people doing their cups and balls routines. Tallon and Gorman will be doing their duelling cups routine, and I'll probably do my chop cup routine.

But the first of these conventions was really small. The first one was a bar-be-cue that was held in Herman Yerger's back yard in Austin, Texas. All of the performers were local, that is, from Texas. Nobody got paid. It was a bunch of magicians and their families that wanted something magical to do over Labor Day.

Now, it's almost as big as a national convention.

If you start CupsCon small like this, you will find that you have a "magic formual" that will work for you.

Don't worry too much about what else is going on when you have your convention. Just let us know when and where you want to do it, and we will be there.

I just hope it's closer to me than most...barring last week's IBM convention, of course!  (Heck, I slept in my own bed at night!)

The major problem I've always had with the internet is that it gives an easy to access forum to anyone who has an opinion and can type.  Unfortunately, most people read what they see written and take it at face value that it's true...it's usually not.

I'd love to come...just say when and where, and I'll try to work it out!
