L&L The Secrets of the Cups & Balls DVD
«
on:

I just received the new C&B DVDs from L&L of the World’s Greatest Magic series (3 volumes). I will let you know what I think when I get to watch them this weekend.
I have their DVD on the Chop Cup and have really enjoyed it. I do understand that it is a collection of previously released material, but it is all new to me… I do not have a large magic DVD library.
Thanks,
Bruce

There's an extra ball!?
Just kidding, good one Gary.
Bruce, I'm very interested to see if you like it. I have the Eddie Ray DVD, and I didn't learn anything useful from it. I also have the Gazzo DVD, and it's GOLD!

Hey Steve… So far I have only watched a bit of VOL 1, my favorite part has been the section with Dai Vernon… Michael Armmar looks so uncomfortable for some reason.
Take care,
Bruce

Bruce, mike ammar is a good performer but seems to me he has alot of flash, were mendoza just performs. A interesting dvd for c&b is Dia Vernon's vol.5. ammar,in his routine, saying c&bs is a right of passage for a real performer.I myself don't agree with that.I feel when you, as a individual performs, it's an exprecssion of ones self, not how people think it should be done.Dia Vernon said if one would produce a orange or a apple it makes the routine go flat.......... opinionated. I saw a Gazzo's routine, he used oranges, damn good too! Enough talk, Ihave mendoza's dvd's,well worth the money, steve s

Steve... Mendoza is on one of these DVDs, I look forward to watching him. Thanks again for your recomendations. I do realize everyone has their own opinions including myself and we all have to come to our own conclusions. I do find Dai Vernon very entertaining to watch and listen to, I had an uncle that Dai reminds me off… in his later years he was also very set in his ways.
Take care,
Bruce

Dia Vernon said if one would produce a orange or a apple it makes the routine go flat.
That remark always had me puzzled. Isn't the whole idea to entertain and surprise the audience? I wonder why he thought the routine went flat? Oh well, I use tennis balls....

Hi All,
I have not had all the time I wanted to spend watching The DVDs this weekend, we have house guest that I forgot were coming (wife’s friends).
Sop far I will give you a quick first impression of what I liked and did not:
Volume 1-
Tommy Wonder… A good performance, however his routine just doesn’t do it for me (I know that others just love his 2 Cup routine). I will watch again and see what I missed.
Frank Garcia… Some neat moves, however Frank’s personality rubs me the wrong way. As a kid I met him at Tannen’s and he was kind of a jerk. I write this off to him being a stereotypical New Yorker.
Dan Fleshman…. He was OK; I just wanted his routine to get over. Another I will have to re watch.
Aldo Colombini…. This routine was too artsy fartsy for me, I can appreciate the moves, but it wasn’t for me.
Dai Vernon… I really liked this section of the DVD, for some reason it looked liked Ammar was uncomfortable throughout the session.
Alex Elmsley… This was fantastic; I never saw a routine like this; it made me think.
Ross Bertram… As a historical piece, I can appreciate his performance, however to me it drug on too long.
Volume 2-
John Mendoza… A great routine (a classic), I really enjoyed him and must investigate some more of his work.
Johnny Thompson… Fantastic, so far a stand out for me. I liked the historical perspective. I also wanted to kill the spectator David.
Steve Dacri…. A very good Indian/Hindu Cups routine. His manicure bugged me a little.
Larry Jennings…. I appreciate his skills, however his presentation is a little dry.
Marc Desquza… I don’t remember his routine.
Volume 3-
Daryl…. He was good, again not my favorite performer. Red coats have to go.
Bill Malone… Again another good performer, however I do not care for rhymed presentations.
Al Schneilder… Again a very dry presentation, however his skills are fantastic.
Gary Ouellet…. I always liked this routine, however his little music system makes me laugh and I find it unnecessary.
David Regal… I find him very creative and I liked this routine (for him).
Again the above is all my first impressions.
Thanks,
Bruce

Steve… I believe that Darci used crochet balls, to be honest I can’t remember. I know this sounds petty, but his strangely manicured fingernails are what I remember most… they were filed too pointy and long for a man (in my opinion). A good performance though.
Take care,
Bruce
