I was reading some old postings over at the Big Green and came across a posting from Dave V recommending a product called “Wright’s Copper Cream” for polishing copper. I did not have much to do this past Saturday so I decided to polish some Cups; I am one of those that like some Cups shiny and others to turn brown.

I purchased the polishing cream and was really pleased with how well it worked.  Wright’s Copper Cream is different from any other polish I have used. Rather than being a gooey paste that one would rub onto the Cup, it is a polishing agent that is applied with a sponge. To use, place the Cup under warm tap water wetting the outside of the Cup. Wet the application sponge and apply a small amount of the cream to it. Polish the Cup with the sponge and simply rinse the Cup in warm tap water to remove the cream. Dry and polish the Cup with a soft towel and admire your Cup.

This polish works well and boy can you polish a set in nothing flat. I polished 6 sets of Cups and 4 Chop Cups in a half hour.  I will report how later how long they stay polished compared to other products I have used.

Take care,
Bruce

Thanks for the tip, Bruce. I like to keep mine nice and shiny, too. Right now I'm using Brasso Metal polish. It works good, but I might give Wright's Copper Cream a try.

Tom… I have used Braso and McGuire’s polishes with great results. Not to sound like a commercial but the Wright’s Copper Cream did a great job and was oh so easy to use.

Let us know what you think.

Andre… To polish or not is a personal thing… if it feels good let it shine!
For now I keep my Mendoza Cups polished, but I have to say your set looks great being brown.

Take care,

I thought I would share an updated picture of my Squatty 2 Cups. Those that know me, know I have been waiting for these to turn brown for the longest time. They are finaly starting to darken as I would like them to.
Below is the latest photo, it has taken about 6 months to get to the stage.

Thanks,
Bruce

Wright's Copper Cream knocks all tarnish off copper almost instantly, but it doesn't leave a nice shine. I consider it more of a copper cleaner. If you really want to shine the heck out of your cups use a polish afterwards. I recommend Flitz - I find it at the local hardware store. Rub it to the outside of the cup until you get a black residue built up and then buff off the residue with a cloth. Shines like glass and retards tarnish.

Don agreed, I should have added that I followed up on the Cups that I want shiny with auto wax to get that shine and maintain it.

Thanks,

Bruce, you finally got the patina! Are you happy with it? It looks great to me.

Did anyone see the ebay listing last year where the guy was selling a set of PF with a stunning patina and he polished ONE of them to show how well they would come up?  Undecided

Adding insult to injury or what!  If you buy them you have to polish off the patina on the other 2 yourself!
