I guess 1/8 of an inch makes all the difference

For years I thought I was using 1 inch balls. In fact I though my choices were basically 3/4 or 1 inch.
I always wanted a cup that could nest 3 of the larger in a stack for a reveal along the saddle.
This limited me in choices. Porper's and Sherwood's will for sure, but when I saw the Foxy 2.5 cups at RNT II, I got excited that they could nest three 1 inch balls. Then I noticed it would only nest two 1 1/8.
1 1/8? I looked at mine with measuring tape and I guess I've been using 1 1/8 this whole time.
I'm a bit disappointed since I really can't spend that much on Sherwood cups right now, and the price for Foxy2.5 is good for me.

Yep, 1/8" makes a huge difference. But, there is an easy fix: order a set of 1" balls with your initial order. RnT2 sells cups sans balls.
Anyway Donnie is out of stock of the aforementioned 2.5s (mirror finished copper) so you'll have to play the waiting game... or wait a few weeks 'cause the New 3.5 Foxies will be available, hopefully.
Cupamagically,

Actually, I do have one set of the Foxy 2.5s in stock. I just updated the web site to reflect that. Don't know why it showed zero instead of one...
And, the Foxy 3 Cups are at the polisher for polishing so those will be available... I'm guessing... two weeks tops.
I pretty thoroughly test what the max size ball is that will nest between the cups and HOW MANY will nest between them as well. That's why you will find detailed info like 2 ball nest can be done with 1 1/8" balls, but 3 ball nest can only be done with 1" balls.
Sorry Jasper, but I guess it's better to know this info than to get the cups and find out later!
Mendoza cups accomodate a 3 ball nest of 1 1/8" balls all day. Other than that, you have to wait for the next NEW cup to be released... don't ask, I'm not telling.

Hi Dom,
You are probably asking about the Don Alan Full Size and Mini Size Chop Cups. There was a run on those after Jamie Grant demonstrated one in his terrific video on his website.
I expect them to be finished and in stock within about 3 weeks. I will also finally have Monti Cups, Monti Combo Cups, Mini Monti Cups, Alter Ego Straight Cups and Alter Ego Beaded Cups in Antique Bronze at the same time.
Thanks!
Donnie

I have a question in mind....
It curious me sometimes....
what if we use White 1" balls (because it looks "bigger" and pop) compared to we use (for example) Red 1 1/8". does it has a lot of differences in context of visuality?
Cheers

Andre,
It seems to me that brighter colored balls are better. So I guess the white ones would be better than the slightly bigger red ones.

I have a set of black balls that I thought might not flash, but they don't "pop", they just sort of appear on the cups. So, I think bright colored balls are best.

I have a collection of many color balls and sizes, it just depends on the Cups to which set I use (kind of like picking out a tie for a suit). I think the RNT2 Stinger balls really look fantastic.

The white-ball-looking-bigger theory seems sound.
For one, it applies to billiard balls as mentioned in Buckley's Principles and Deceptions that white will look larger on stage.
I think this is simply because white balls will not recede into shadow along its edges from the POV of a viewer the way a colored ball will.
Personally I prefer red, as is probably the case of the majority, but I imagine a 1 inch would look more like a 1 1/8 if they were white.

White looks larger because it reflects more light than any other color. The brighter the color, the more light it reflects so this is true for all brighter colors.
Red is traditional for cups and balls because so many manufacturers only produced cheap balls in one color (red) and included them with their cups.
It is surprising how much a brighter colored ball can improve a good routine by simply improving visibility.
Right now my most popular colors are Yellow Stingers and then the White Snow Balls. They are outselling both colors of Red balls.
My favorite are the Sparkling Silver Disco Balls which are White with Silver metallic thread woven thru the white. They are very attractive and bright.
