Working at a small renaissance faire a few weekends ago and a guy standing about 8 o'clock watches by cups and afterwords says "very interesting, but I seen you put them lemons in"
I guess I wasn't in the mood for it and said something about how he should go see Copperfield and ask if he can watch from backstage.
I suppose I'm OK with the fact that my loading sequence isn't 360 degree perfect and I can't always control all angles.
Maybe I should try a version where I load from the pouch in front, but I admit I never liked it as much.

That is a tough situation! There's always a wise guy.

Sometimes, someone just happens to be looking at just the right place at just the right time, and you get caught. Loading from a pouch in the front fits perfect with renaissance faire costumes, but you really feel like it's very obvious when you reach in there. The action is right in front of their eyes! Loading always looks a little funny.

Many years ago, I was using a front pouch. It was black and I wore black pants. Afterwards, a woman said she thought I kept reaching into my pants, not my pockets!

Yeah at least he didn't say anything until after the performance was over.
To add to it, I just got some jumbo chick cups and Larger loads will only add to the difficulty since oranges (or whatever fits) will be harder to conceal.

At least he had SOME manners! If you ever see that guy again, you'll have to create a big diversion at the proper time. Good luck with the big cups, Jasper!

Some people have the wrong attitude and low self esteem, did you ever think that maybe he didn't see you put the lemons in?

We don't really know as we were not there but there are people who just want others to think they know how it is done because they need to feel important...

I think he probably did see the loads.
Like I said he's off to my side and somewhat behind me and that would be my weakest angle. I probably should just laugh it off when someone says something since it doesn't make me a better performer to get snippy with an audience member-even a less than gracious one.

Ah, okay, well I guess it just has to be chalked up to experience, I think you are doing the right thing.  Are you working from pouch or pockets?

I am a bit pedantic so I try to practice so that my final loads are invisible and THEN I add misdirection, timed misdirection (and even verbal misdirection and suggestions) all in the hope of pulling off those loads.  I guess it's just a case of knowing you've done everything you can and understanding that things can (and do) happen.

Thinking about it, I think the only person on this board who's seen my final loads is Tom, maybe he'll get back and say "Nope, saw them all... it was pathetic!" so I could be talking nonsense!

Sorry,  Ihave just noticed that he came up to you afterwards, I thought he had shouted it out.  He may have just wanted to chat or was being nice I guess.  I'd wink and say "Don't tell anyone will you!"

jasper23, Not only would I look the the person at 8, but at 4 also. If you work at 360', you might want to think about making a table where you can sit , rather than stand, but make it small enough where it is easy to move if you need too.  Just a thougt  , good luck, mel Wink

Good idea, Mel. And welcome to CupsCon!

I always wished the audience was in single file! No one at the sides!  Grin

jasper23, Thought about this issue. A good dvd for you to look at would be,Dai Vernon's Revelations volumes 5&6............  With his final loads, he worked from his pockets. Alot of magicains bring the load to the cup, which is well noticed, where if you bring the cup to the load, you will notice a great difference. Get the dvd, you'll see where I'm coming from. Also, by your description, you must be right-handed.

Thanks Mel,
I don't think my loading is a problem in most situations. When I'm doing stuff at the Magic Castle, I have more control over my angles.
Working outside I don't.
I think everyone looks at Vernon's routine at one point. I certainly did. I don't work from the pockets anymore since I'm in Ren-Faire costuming, or if in a suit, I load out of my close up case.
I'm not going to be sitting outside for a street show. My table is similar to a Gazzo/Cellini sort of thing. It wouldn't cover anything so there's no advantage to that. I don't tend to sit at all during any effect anyway so it would seem odd to sit down for my closer.
But thanks for the suggestions!
