I just want to say Merry Christmas to all my Cup buddies… another year almost gone. I hope everyone enjoys the holidays with their family, love ones and Cups.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Started snowing here at 9:30 AM and hasn't stopped yet. (It's 10:31 PM now.) Looks like a couple of days to drink cocoa and play with my cups.

Wishing all of you a prospersous, happy, and healthy 2011.

I hope everyone had a pleasant Christmas; did anyone receive any new Cup goodies? I did not, however I did receive an old Tannen’s Magic Catalog from 1955. It is very interesting to read what was available then, who was making what and seeing how far back some effects go. One could purchase Stubby Cups in copper or chrome for $10.00 a set; P&L Cups were $7.50.

The illustrations and descriptions are pretty cool too; some were drawings from what I guess were from the 30’s and 40’s and newer ones more stylistic of the 50’s. Effect descriptions were more deceiving and hard sell. As far as magical offerings go, we have so much available to us now... tricks, books and Cups.

Happy New Year!!!

Nice Christmas here in Pennsylvania, but no Cup goodies.

Bruce, those old catalogs are nice to read once in a while. You're right about the descriptions of the effects; you have to learn to read between the lines! Buyer beware!

Happy New Year,

Tom… you are so right… I remember as a kid being burnt bad on some stuff. This was more so from the old EZ Magic Catalogs (the stock ones that they sold to magic shops). There was one reputable dealer who would give out these catalogs and rubber stamp “NOT RECOMMENDED” over the effects he thought were rip offs. I was sad when he closed up shop in NJ and moved to Philadelphia.

The other thing that I did not mention in my previous post was how non-PC many of the drawings and descriptions are… I just love history seeing and reading the good and the bad.

Happy New Year!

Those non-PC ads are funny!
I've seen some old car commercials on YouTube that were serious, but today they seem rather funny. For instance, "What do you do if you have a flat tire, but there's no man around?" If they ran those ads today they would be sued!

No, they wouldn't be sued. They just would be badmouthed.

If you used certain ethnic terms in an ad, then there would be a bigger uproar, but no lawsuit.
