Hey Mel… Happy New Year to you as well!

I have to say at first I was not totally enamored with the JDG Fundamental Cups; I can appreciate then for what they are and the reason behind their design, but when you get down to it… I really love shoulder beads.

As I read again the postings over at TMC about them, I have become more interested in the set and their looks are growing on me. I would like to know more about the routine associated with them or see a video of the Cups in use.

What do you think of them?

Bruce,I think they look like a stack of chop cups. Like you,I'm partial to shouder beads. Not get off the subject, but have you seen Jim Riser's site lately? By the looks of it,I think he's going to start making engraved cups! That would be nice. The man does some quaility work. Nice talking with you. all the best, mel Wink

Mel… Thanks for turning me on to the new Riser info, when I was on his site yesterday I did not see this… maybe it was there and I am blind??? Yep… it looks like there will be Riser Engraved Cups coming our way. I am sure that they will be of high standards… the question will be, who he will decide to sell them to… I do not qualify per his website.  What Riser Cups I have been purchased on the used market.

Knowing nothing about engraving other than what others have written about Cups, I wonder if his Cups will be deep 2 sided (inside and out) engravings like a Sherwood Cup or more like fine engravings you see on guns, the tools that he shows look like things used to etch or engrave such… again I know nothing.

I wish Mr. Riser luck with his project; maybe it will do well because there is not much competition out there engraved Cup-wise other than the Sherwood Cups.

Take care,
Bruce

Mel… He is particular as to who he sells to, from his website…

“will not be available to all who might want them. They will be sold only to those passing the screening process.”

“I'll be offering them to select clients on a first refusal basis. I will be basing my client list on factors that might surprise many so called magicians. Since I am the designer/maker, I feel free to let my creations out to whomever I select.”

“Sets of the "Innocent Chop Cup" are available to special performers who understand what the cup is all about.”

From what I gather he prefers to sell to established magicians; not the average collector.

Take care,
Bruce

I have a set of the early prototypes of these cups, as well as a set of the regular JDG Fundamental cups as issued.

If you prefer a set of cups with shoulder beads, get the Phoenix II's.

When I bought my Riser Standard cups, he didn't hesitate to send me a set. Maybe because they are just regular cups. But I'll tell you, I'm glad I got 'em. They're very nice!
