Just curious if there's any moves or sleights that you've never put into performance because they seem to hard or because you didn't feel like you could pull it off consistently enough.
And, is it something you still work on or have you found a "work around"?
I remember when I first saw the Silent Mora/Vernon wand spin I thought I'd never ever do that.
Eventually I did work it in but it wasn't easy and it's still not 100% but it's worth the effort.

If I was not sure of my ability to perform the slight, then I would never do it in an actual show.  There are slights I'm working on like the tap vanish, however there is enough to use until I get that one down.
My personal thought is if you don't fool yourself in the mirror, you won't fool the audience.

Mine is a ball vanish taught by Johnny Thompson. Holding the cup in the right hand, you lightly toss the ball from your left onto the table as you set the cup on it. In reality, it bounces and exits the back of the cup into your waiting right palm.

I can do it in practice but not 100%. Either it doesn't bounce just right, or my timing is off. Sometimes it hits the right spot but not nearly often enough.

I agree with Jasper23 on the Vernon wand spin. Spinning is easy, but to catch xxxx without exposing is tough, still trying

I think the point is that any of these great moves takes lots and lots of practice and even years to master.  It is also a big help if you can learn from someone who has mastered the move rather than learn from a video.
I learned the wand spin from Johnny Thompson himself (he's a friend of the family) and it was the bigest help, but I would say I've spent 20 plus years working on that one move.  I have it down, however Johnny is still correcting things I do.  I just had dinner with him a week ago, and he's still showing me ways I can make it better.
So I say hang in there keep working hard, and when we're old and gray maybe we'll be the masters Wink

"There is a saying that it takes two lifetimes to master fencing. By
the time anyone has come close to "mastering" the sport, they are
long past their athletic prime."

Luckily in Magic, it doesn't have to be as physical as something like fencing, but at the same time it sort of applies.
It can be a never ending quest should someone decide to make it that. Or we could do the same trick the same way for decades.
I'm reasonably happy with my wand spin vanish although I don't have a Johnny Thompson around to offer help, hehe.
I doubt there's ANY slight I do that doesn't involve some risk, but there's risk in anything so it's worth it.

If you can't do it EVERY time, don't put it in your act.

I'm trying to make my cups and balls routine appear to be completely without any sleight of hand. It will have sleight of hand, of course, but I don't want any really flourishy or hand-washy moves in the routine.

I do the wand spin vanish but with no ball. On tipping the ball into the hand I throw it back under the cup as it goes down. I then fake a transfer of the no ball into the other hand and do the wand spin vanish. This way I can show both hands empty after the vanish.  I do it this way as I'm crap at doing it with a ball.
